A herbal food supplement

A natural source of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and iodine.

Kelp seaweed granules in a resealable pouch to add to smoothies and seasonings. These granules are from the species Ascophyllum nodosum which is also known as Norwegian kelp, eggwrack. It is a Seagreens® quality ingredient harvested in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland from a certified organic source.

AVAILABLE AS
100g / 500g / 1kg Pouch. Not currently available to customers in the EU.

SUITABLE FOR
Vegetarians and vegans.

INGREDIENTS
Made from pure Seagreens® Ascophyllum nodosum (Kelp) fine granules.

DIRECTIONS
Add a quarter to half a teaspoon to a juice or a smoothie, a stock or a soup, to your taste. You can also put the granules into a salt grinder with rock salt, or sprinkle it over your food.

Please note: A teaspoon will hold approximately one gram of granules. One gram contains 700 mcg of chelated iodine. The UK government recommends a limit of 1000 mcg of iodine a day (approximately 1.5 teaspoons). The Japanese government recommends that no more than 3000 mcg should be consumed. This is because very large amounts of iodine can cause thyroid problems in susceptible individuals.

CAUTIONS
Not all herbs are suitable in pregnancy, breastfeeding or for young children, or if you are unwell, have health concerns or an ongoing illness. If in doubt, please ask us, your medical herbalist or healthcare practitioner. If you are taking any medication, please speak to your healthcare practitioner before using this product. Discontinue use and consult a doctor if adverse reactions occur. This product should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet or lifestyle. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Do not take kelp granules if you are allergic to iodine or seaweeds.

We advise that you take special care in taking kelp if you are taking thyroid medication or have a thyroid condition.

Underactive thyroid due to iodine insufficiency
If you have an underactive thyroid gland that has been caused by iodine insufficiency you may find that you need to take less levothyroxine as the iodine content of your diet increases.
If you take a capsule of knotted kelp a day as well as thyroxine, your thyroxine dose may well need to be lowered. If you intend to take both together we recommend that you introduce the kelp 4 weeks before your next TSH serum blood test and inform your doctor so that your medication can be adjusted accordingly, if applicable.

Underactive thyroid due to auto-immune diseases
If you have an auto-immune thyroid condition such as Hashimoto's disease you may be very sensitive to even small fluctuations of iodine in your diet.

Underactive thyroid due lack of a functioning thyroid gland
Seaweed is a source of dietary iodine and not a source of thyroid hormones. If your underactive thyroid is due to a damaged or lack of a functioning thyroid gland, you will probably always require levothyroxine or a dessicated thyroid supplement.
It is always best to advise your doctor or medical herbalist about any significant changes to your diet and lifestyle.
