“My great-grandfather founded Napiers with his local community the centre of his focus. We want to continue his legacy, and this partnership helps us to do that.
“For over 165 years we’ve worked with people, not just patients, meeting them where they are, sharing knowledge, and keeping traditional plant medicine alive in ways that feel accessible and grounded. Supporting Gorgie Community Farm feels like a natural extension of that. It brings together education, wellbeing, and the environment in a way Edinburgh can be truly proud of.” - Lynda Napier

We are extremely proud and excited to announce a new chapter of collaboration and community wellbeing as Napiers the Herbalists joins Gorgie Community Farm as one of its primary partners.
Founded in 1860, Napiers is Scotland’s oldest herbal apothecary, born from the belief that natural healthcare, nature, and community care belong together.
For more than 165 years, Napiers has worked at the heart of Edinburgh communities, offering herbal remedies, natural skincare, and education in traditional plant medicines. We have deep roots in Edinburgh, and like many people across the city, we watched the closure of Gorgie Farm in 2023 with sadness. Seeing the site come alive again under a new community-led charity is something genuinely inspiring. For us, supporting the farm feels less like launching a new partnership and more like rediscovering a shared purpose. At its core, Gorgie Community Farm stands for the same values that shaped Napiers: connection to nature, shared learning, and the belief that wellbeing grows when people come together. As the farm reopens in phases, we are excited to support its vision for a space that welcomes everyone: from young people and families to volunteers, gardeners, and local groups. The partnership gives us the opportunity to help nurture a place where the city can reconnect with food-growing, plant medicine, animal welfare, and green space at a time when these things have never mattered more.
Through this partnership, Napiers hopes to contribute expertise in herbal education, community health, workshops, and volunteer support. We’re also excited about future opportunities to develop gardening and wellbeing projects that help people reconnect with nature and learn practical skills they can take into their daily lives.
For us, community means shared ownership, shared learning, and creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and able to contribute. Gorgie Community Farm embodies those ideals beautifully.
We’re honoured to play a part and even more honoured to do so alongside local organisations, volunteers, and partners who share the belief that the farm can once again become a thriving, joyful asset for Edinburgh.
We’re looking forward to the growing season ahead in every sense.
