With a background in workplace wellbeing, public healthcare and delivering holistic cancer support Jacqui has followed her interest in holistic health and self-care practices to retrain as a Shiatsu therapist with The Shiatsu School Edinburgh, qualifying in 2023 after three years of study. Enthusiastic about self-care, she believes Shiatsu can play an effective and significant role in building physical, mental and emotional resilience for everyone.

A physical therapy, from Japan, Shiatsu uses a mixture of acupressure points, gentle massage and stretching to re-balance the body’s energy or “Ki.” Working with thumbs, fingers and palms Jacqui applies a sensitive and mindful touch which works deeply, affecting the nervous system, blood flow, breath, mind and emotions, whilst at the same time supporting the body’s natural self-healing abilities.

Shiatsu is given through clothes, so it is best to wear clothing that is loose-fitting or stretchy. Shiatsu’s effectiveness is not dependant on contact with the skin, in fact long sleeves and full or capri length trousers are usually best. Fresh socks should be worn too.

Traditionally practiced on a floor futon, here at Napier’s we offer Shiatsu on a
treatment table.
