5 Reasons Why Napiers Arctic Omega-3 Isn't A Standard Fish Oil

Backed by more than 165 years of experience, Napiers Arctic Omega-3 is extracted from Norwegian herring caviar rather than pressed from fish. It offers a combined 450mg of EPA and DHA per daily serving, in the phospholipid form the roe itself uses.

A Whole-Food Roe Extract, Not A Pressed Oil

Standard omega-3 supplements are pressed fish oil, refined into triglyceride or ethyl ester form. Napiers Arctic Omega-3 is extracted from herring caviar (the roe) where omega-3 fatty acids occur bound to marine phospholipids. Phospholipids are the lipid class that forms cell membranes throughout the body, including in the brain. The extract retains that structure: 320mg marine phospholipids per serving, alongside naturally occurring choline and marine trace elements. Minimal processing, nothing isolated and rebuilt.

Combined 450mg of EPA And DHA Per Daily Serving

Each daily serving of two capsules delivers 340mg DHA and 110mg EPA - 450mg combined. There’s no established NRV for omega-3, but the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids recommends adults consume a minimum of 250mg combined EPA and DHA daily. This provides almost double that. EFSA has advised that up to 5g combined EPA and DHA daily raises no safety concerns for healthy adults, so there’s comfortable headroom.

3

Three Roles No Other Nutrient Fills

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats, the body can’t produce them and must obtain them from diet. DHA is the dominant structural fat in the brain and the retina; EPA and DHA work together in the heart. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function, DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision, and EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart.

4

Sustainably Sourced From A Catch Already Happening

The herring caviar is harvested as part of Norway’s annual herring catch rather than through dedicated fishing, so no additional fish are taken for the oil. Norway operates one of the world’s most tightly regulated and transparent fisheries. The extract is naturally low in heavy metals and requires minimal refining.

Crafted by herbalists, backed by heritage

From our Edinburgh beginnings in 1860, the Napiers motto has been: tried, tested, trusted. Napiers Arctic Omega-3 carries that same spirit. A whole-food source chosen for what it is rather than what it can be processed into.

Where Omega-3 Does Its Work

Omega-3 fatty acids aren’t used in one place. EPA and DHA are structural and functional components across several systems at once, which is why consistent daily intake matters more than occasional high doses. Napiers Arctic Omega-3 supplies them in the phospholipid form, the same lipid class those membranes are made from.

Brain & Cognitive Function

DHA is the dominant structural fat in the human brain, concentrated in the membranes of nerve cells. A daily serving of Napiers Arctic Omega provides 340mg of DHA, above the 250mg intake at which DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function.

Heart & Circulation

The heart is the body's most metabolically active muscle, contracting without pause for a lifetime. EPA and DHA are incorporated into cardiac cell membranes and act as precursors to the signalling molecules that regulate normal cardiovascular function.

Vision

The retina holds one of the highest DHA concentrations of any tissue in the body, densest in the photoreceptor cells that convert light into signal. Those cells rebuild their membranes continuously, drawing on circulating DHA to do it.

Cell Membranes

Every cell in your body is wrapped in a membrane made of phospholipids. In herring caviar, omega-3 already occurs bound to marine phospholipids rather than as free triglycerides. Each serving of Napiers Arctic Omega provides 320mg of them alongside the EPA and DHA.
