ABOUT KATE
Kate qualified in nutrition in 2007 after studying for 3 years at the Institute of Optimum Nutrition, founded by Patrick Holford. In 2017 she completed Institute of Functional Medicines' training programme "Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice" and went on to study Functional Medicine in more depth for a few more years, to become one of the relatively few UK based fully certified Functional Medicine Practitioners (IFMCP) in 2025.
Mid-life health
With 19 years of clinical experience Kate has supported over 2000 people on their journey to better health. In this period she has worked with both 8 year olds and 80 year olds with a wide range of conditions - from digestion, to autoimmune, to mental health disorders. In the last few years she has chosen to specialise in women in their mid life, from mid 30s upwards. This is primarily because of her first-hand experience of an early menopause, and because her knowledge means she can help women navigate the physical and mental impacts of changes in hormones and dispel some of the (mis) information overload.
Microbiome
Kate is also particularly interested in the microbiome, not just of the gut, but vaginal, urinary and oral too and the systemic impact they can have on our overall health. 20 years ago her dissertation was on the potential role of the gut microbiome in the development of autism. Back then it was very much a niche topic and difficult to find anyone who understood why she was interested in this - nowadays the gut brain axis could almost be classed as everyday conversation. Kate continues to read and study on the subject and her fire is constantly lit in this field, so if you have any interest in your microbiome, then do get in touch.
Weight Loss
Kate runs Metabolic Balance weight management programmes. This is a clinically designed personalised nutrition plan created from your individual blood test results, medical history, body measurements, medications and food preferences. There are no shakes, pills, points or calorie counting - the focus is on real food chosen for your biochemistry.
You work one to one with Kate who guides you through the 4 stages of the 3 month programme. To find out more, please see her website.
Testing
Kate regularly carries out various functional tests as part of her work, or she can also write to your GP to request some bloodwork where relevant.
Examples of common tests done privately through Kate (list is not exhaustive):
- gut, vaginal, oral and urinary microbiome
- SIBO breath testing
- DUTCH hormone tests
- genetic SNPs - looking at methylation, hormones, nervous system SNPs and more via Lifecode GX
- blood chemistry
