Naturopathy

What is Naturopathy or Naturopathic Herbal Medicine?

Naturopathy is a whole medicine system which combines various natural therapies to promote healing and enhance and maintain health. Naturopaths aim to treat the underlying cause of illness and disease, whilst also treating the acute symptoms the patient is experiencing. This is a holistic approach with healing undertaken on the mind, body and soul of a person.

There are six core principles that underpin the practice of Naturopathy:

THE HEALING POWER OF NATURE

Trust in the body’s inherent wisdom to heal itself.

IDENTIFY AND TREAT THE CAUSES

Look and investigate beyond the symptoms to address underlying causes.

FIRST DO NO HARM

Use the most natural, least invasive and least toxic therapies.

DOCTOR AS TEACHER

Educate patients in the best steps to achieving and maintaining health.

TREAT THE WHOLE PERSON

View the body as an integrated whole - treating the physical, mental and spiritual aspects as one.

PREVENTION

Focus on overall health, wellness and disease prevention.

General areas which are studied to become a Naturopath include biological sciences, psychology and counselling, nutrition and dietary planning, botany and herbal medicine studies as well as diagnostic techniques. Sessions can include herbal and nutritional medicine, diet and lifestyle modifications, flower essences, homeopathy and iridology. Naturopathy aims to educate the patient on how to best look after their own unique body and to retrain the body to heal itself naturally.

Is Naturopathy for you?

Naturopathy can be used to assist a variety of health complaints, diagnosed medical conditions, improving particular systems in the body (i.e. immune, nervous system, cardiovascular) and preventing future disease and illness. It is also particularly good for assisting those who need a boost with their overall wellness and vitality or those dealing with chronic illness.
