Katrina is currently the 1st team Sports Therapist for a local football club BSC Glasgow who play in the Scottish Lowland League (5th tier of the Scottish football pyramid). Katrina’s role at the club involves Assessing, treating and rehabilitating players with various injuries using techniques of massage, electrotherapy, taping, exercise, pool and nutrition.
Katrina has had placements with Billingham RUFC and Durham County RUF U21, where she assessed, treated and rehabilitated the players with various injuries. Katrina has experience treating some major injuries throughout football and rugby such unconscious player, fracture clavicle, dislocated shoulder, ACL rupture and fracture check bone. She also undertook a short placement at Catterick Garrison British Army barracks where pre and post massage was provided for the male and female soldiers of various ranks including PT’s and medical personal who took part in the annual cross country championships.
Katrina graduated from Teesside University with a high second class Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Sports Therapy (2014). While working, she is also studying for a Master of Science in Sports and Exercise Science & Medicine at Glasgow University. She previously attended City of Glasgow College (2011–2012) and completed her Higher National Diploma (HND) in Sports Therapy.
She worked with Benburb Juniors FC for the 11/12 season in her last year of college providing the players with pre and post massage and pitch side first aid, Katrina also completed work experience in the same season with Pollok Juniors shadowing Pollok’s Physiotherapist learning new treatments and modalities such as mobilisations, ultrasound, massage, stretching and rehabilitation. Katrina returned to Benburb for the 12/13 and 13/14 pre seasons before attending University.
During this time she assessed, treated and rehabilitated all players with injury complaints using modalities such as taping, massage, frictions, mobilisations, exercise, stretching and pitch side first aid.
While studying at university Katrina enhanced on the practical and theoretical knowledge from College and learnt new techniques and modalities such as peripheral and vertebral mobilisation, frictions, the science behind sporting performance and hydrotherapy with the use of underwater treadmill. As part of the course Katrina had to write an undergraduate dissertation, which looked at “A comparison of HIT land treadmill training vs. HIT underwater treadmill training effects on sprint performance” where it was found the underwater treadmill training had improved sprint times more than the land treadmill training.
