I had been in the fashion industry for 20+ years and always felt there was a deeper and more meaningful aspect to life. This prompted me to embark on learning and understanding about nutrition and the effects that it has on the mind, body and spirit. The stresses of modern life, which I experienced in my previous role, have motivated me to support people holistically through naturopathy and nutrition. I am passionate about helping people take control of their health and wellbeing.

Thanos Razis

Thanos Razis

Thanos Razis, Medical Herbalist & Homeopath

BSc Hons Herbal Medicine, University of Westminster

ABOUT THANOS

Thanos is an experienced Medical Herbalist and Homeopath. He studied Herbal Medicine at the University of Westminster, graduating in 2007, and went on to practice as resident herbalist at a London clinic whilst studying for his Classical Homeopathy degree at the same institution. In 2013, he moved to Scotland and started practicing at D.Atkinson Herbalist in Edinburgh. He now practices at Napiers Bathgate and is a member of the Lyme Clinic group of practitioners which is headed by Monica Wilde.

APPROACH TO TREATMENT

Thanos' approach to treatment is in accordance with his belief that, to a lesser or greater extent, better health is achievable by anyone who has the will and commitment to make long term changes and incorporate new, more beneficial habits into their life. Illness, and especially chronic one, can be the end result of factors and/or habits that can go back years in a person’s life and so to achieve true health it needs patience, commitment and time.

Thanos has found that blending herbal medicine with homeopathy is a gentle but effective approach particularly suitable for those weakened by long-term chronic illnesses, people with sensitive constitutions and for children.

APPOINTMENTS WITH THANOS

Thanos’s clinic is on Thursdays and can be in person, through Skype or FaceTime from 10:30 - 13:30 and 14:30 - 16:30.

Kim Stirling

Kim Stirling

Kim Stirling

BSc (Hons) Herbal Medicine

Kim originally qualified as a dental nurse in 1996 and joined a busy practice. As a Lead Dental Nurse for over 20 years she helped to implement a better ‘patient journey’ including pre and post appointment advice. However, holistic health had always interested her and she qualified in Aromatherapy Massage in 2001 and Indian Head Massage in 2002. Working with the needs of her massage clients led to a deeper interest in their health and Kim studied the BSc (Hons) Herbal Medicine degree at Napier University, Edinburgh - completing her studies in 2007. She stopped practicing and massage to have a family in 2010.

From 2016, she worked as Compliance Manager for Avena Consultants, reviewing botanical products and herbal supplements. A niche and challenging field that required excellent administration, research, legal and scientific skills. Underpinning both her roles was a love of science, therapeutics and research.

Kim returned to herbal medicine practice in 2020. She is passionate about herbal medicine, therapeutics, plants and people.

LYME CLINIC

Kim also works as Medical Secretary for the Lyme Clinic based here at Napiers Bathgate. Her research skills make her a valuable member of the Lyme disease team - a much under-documented condition which affects many people across the U.K.

Kim consults with patients who have a wide variety of needs.

Monica Wilde

Monica Wilde

Monica Wilde, Research Herbalist

MSc Herbal Medicine (UCLAN), FLS

Monica has a Masters degree in herbal medicine from the University of Central Lancashire. She is the research herbalist heading up the Napiers Lyme Clinic. The Lyme Clinic specialism is Lyme disease Borrelia burgdorferi and co-infections - crypto-infections Bartonella, Babesia, Rickettsia, Erlichia, Anaplasma, Mycoplasma, etc. A research herbalist is not the same as a medical herbalist and Monica does not run a general clinical practice. This allows her to focus on Lyme disease and bacterial and viral infections.

Her Masters dissertation was on the concomitant prescribing of the proton-pump inhibitor drug, omeprazole, with herbs and micronutrients. She has a particular interest in beneficial concomitant prescribing and in Integrative Medicine, committed to research for patients who need to take chemical (allopathic) drugs but wish to also take herbal medicine as part of a holistic healthcare plan. Experience has taught her that a holistic approach can reduce chemical drug side effects in an extremely beneficial way for the patient while still ensuring the treatment that they need.

Previous specialist fields include the study of chelated iodine in seaweed and its effect on iodine insufficiency and thyroid function. She has designed, and currently seeking funding for, a clinical trial to monitor the consumption of seaweed in the form of Napiers Organic Hebridean Kelp capsules by people also taking levothyroxine for underactive thyroid to improve their baseline health. She is a member of the Academy of Integrative Health Medicine, following the development of the field of integrative medicine with great interest. She has also researched the cosmetic uses of native species for use in cosmetics.

Monica is also a guest lecturer on the Royal Botanic Gardens of Edinburgh Diploma in Herbology course teaching the medicinal uses of seaweeds, fungi, tree saps and resins.

Monica has a deep passion for plants, fungi and the natural world. Meeting a Kikuyu herbalist on the Kenyan farm of her childhood, inspired a lifetime of interest and studying of herbal medicine. She is a Fellow of the Linnean Society, a founding Member of the Association of Foragers and a foraging teacher of wild food and wild plant medicine. More about these aspects of her life can be found on her blog www.monicawilde.com

APPOINTMENTS FOR PATIENTS WITH LYME CAN BE MADE WITH MONICA AT OUR BATHGATE CLINIC OR BY TELEPHONE/SKYPE/FACETIME. PLEASE CONTACT THE BATHGATE CLINIC DIRECTLY TO BOOK.
